Bacon Jam Slow Cooker Recipe

Bacon Jam? Like, literally jam made from Bacon? Yes. Jam made from Bacon. We thought the same thing: what kind of madness is this? Until we tried it. Now we're hooked!

Bacon Jam can be whipped up in no time using simple ingredients in a slow cooker and as a condiment it can't be beat. You can put it over eggs, steak, bread, bagels - anything you feel that would go better with bacon.

As opposed to a lot of our recipes this one can easily get out of control calorie wise but as long as you stick to the serving size you'll be good to go!

Ok, enough talk. Let's do this!

  • 12 Slices / 500 g - Thick cut Smoked Bacon
  • 1 Large Red Onion, chopped
  • 5 Cloves Garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 cup / 100 ml - Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 3/4 cup / 175 ml - Brewed Coffee
  • 1/4 cup / 50 g - Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup / 60 ml - Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • Salt and Pepper to season

The first thing you will want to do is turn your Slow cooker onto HIGH to preheat.

Now, you will prep your food.  Cut your bacon into small slivers and start to cook it up in your pan on medium heat. Meanwhile, chop your onion and garlic in preparation of adding that to your bacon.

Once your bacon is slightly crispy, you will want to use a slotted spoon and place the bacon onto a paper towel covered plate.  Then, drain most of the bacon fat into a heat resistant bowl or container.  Never pour down your sink, that would clog it as soon as it cools down. Once it cools in the bowl, you can discard it into your garbage.

In the same pan, start cooking your onion and garlic.  Stir frequently until it takes on a translucent color. Now you will add the brown sugar, coffee, maple syrup and apple cider vinegar to your pan and stir.  Make sure to scrap the bottom and get all that flavor from the cooked bacon. Bring this to a boil and add your cooked bacon.  Stir all together.  Turn off your stove top and carefully pour all of this into your pre-heated Slow cooker.  Set it for 4 hours on High and let set without the lid on.

Fast forward to 4 hours later. The smell is almost unbearable, it's so good. Turn off your Slow cooker, add the last ingredients.  One Tablespoon of Balsamic vinegar and Salt and Pepper to taste.

With an Immersion blender or small portions in regular blender, pulse it several times until you get a chunky consistency to your liking.

Once it's cooled enough, you can now place into your storage container and keep in your Fridge up to 30 days.  If it lasts that long.

Enjoy!
